Weight Loss as a Journey
So one of the top New Years resolutions every year is weight loss. Many start out with good intentions but fall off of the bandwagon after a few days, a few weeks, or months. There are a few key reasons that weight loss is not a success. Self sabotage being up there on the list. However, self sabotage tells us a few things about ourselves. Perhaps, some people aren't ready for that change or they don't have the correct information. Contrary from the popular opinion that weight loss is 90% diet and 10% exercise, real weight loss comes from a deeper place. That place is all really in your mindset. Weight loss takes patience. Not only patience with the process but patience with yourself. The weight loss process is really a learning process. In the learning process, a key element in your life must be genuine acceptance. Accepting where you are in the present and acknowledging where you want to be in the future. Only from a place of acceptance can change occur. A common but seriously skewed perception about weight loss is seeing weight loss as a goal. Weight loss is a byproduct. It may be your goal but the process needs to be seen as a journey, a journey into the unknown. While on this journey, as with anything else new, you will experience trials, triumphant, and many other things, some foreign and some familiar. As with any journey one must walk the path with an open mind. Along this journey you will meet many followers on the same path as you. You will encounter many different ideas, some may appeal to you, intrigue you, or cause you to be hesitant. However, the real key is staying open to new ideas and at times leaving your comfort zone. As you leave your comfort zone, that zone will expand. The journey will become easier because you will have acquired more of an understanding and before you know it, you will have arrived at your original destination, weight loss. Be a pioneer and venture off! Now you just have to define your body into Summer!
